The child was reported to be attempting to reach aUnited Nationsfeeding center about a half mile away inAyod, Sudan,(nowSouth Sudan), in March 1993. The picture won thePulitzer Prize for Feature Photographyaward in 1994. Carter died by suicide four months after winning the prize.
